Burdock Root
Latin name: Arctuim lappa
Family: Asteraceae
Taste: Burdock root has a gentle bitter, slightly nutty, pungent oily flavour with a sweet taste.
Food: Roots are roasted by themself or with other root vegetables like garlic and herbs. In Japanese cooking, they call burdock root “gobo”.
Excellent in coleslaw with shredded cabbage, carrot and red onions.
Add to soup and bone broth, makes a great-tasting sauerkraut made with cabbage, burdock root and ginger.
Burdock Root: has an affinity for the liver, kidneys, and lymphatics and as a blood purifier, cleansing the blood and clearing out impurities. It clears heat out of the body and has been long used for septic skin disorders, acne, boils, carbuncles, abscesses and eczema. Burdock root can also help with problem dandruff.
Cancer: It is used during conventional cancer treatments like chemotherapy and radiation with good results. Burdock root helps to maintain an appetite and aids in digestion, helping the body with the absorption of nutrients. Burdock root is an important herb/food for the healing process of our bodies.
Tea (decocted): made into an herbal tea, it is highly nutritive, rich in minerals with its lovely earthy taste. It is such a beautiful herb/food.
Pre-biotic: One of the valuable elements of burdock root is a prebiotic. Burdock root contains starches and soluble fibres that are rich in Prebiotic sugars. These sugars feed the beneficial ecology of bacteria within the GI. When these helpful bacteria work together, they then maintain the health of the gut wall. This in turn reduces inflammation, helping immune support and protection from pathogenic bacteria, and helping support a healthy digestive system. Dandelion root, yellow dock root and Elecampane root also have these virtues.
Valuable: So, we see the value in our food and what we drink, burdock root is an extremely valuable mineral-rich nutritive herb/food for all ages.
Elemental Support: We have three of these herbs in our blend that support your gut health. Burdock root, dandelion root and yellow dock root. We dig and harvest our roots in the fall season after the first frost. This gives them a sweeter, more nutritive balance. We also add horsetail, nettles, spearmint and yarrow to this blend, (all grown on our organic land), supporting your lymphatic, blood, kidneys, liver and digestion.
Bulk Burdock Root: Harvested this fall from our organic land certified by Pro-cert. From our farm in southwest Ontario to you!
